It is an experience to stay there, since it is a kilometer long and requires stamina to get from bed room to bar.The minimalist interiors and the building itself are cleverly designed to blend into the landscape without interfering with the tranquil surroundings. Bawa's design allows magnificent views of the ancient Sigiriya Rock, the surrounding mountains and the Kandalama Tank.The hotel lies in attractive scrubland which is home to numerous species of birds, butterflies, monkeys, spotted deer and wild boar and it has won numerous environmental awards. Heritance Kandalama is truly a naturalist's dream. For guests there are all manner of things to do, like jungle trekking, canoeing on the lake, safari by river, bird watching,horse, pony& bullock cart rides. There are also, sometimes, hot – air balloon voyages floating over treetops and viewing wildlife & the Kandalamatank,as well as the sigiriya rock.
